Corporation to take up BRTS project to solve traffic problems
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation would take up Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project to solve the traffic problems in the city with a cost of Rs 152,64 crore.
A trial run of this project would be conducted after November 15, according to municipal authorities.
APSRTC has agreed to spare ten Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for this trial run. A BRTS bus would be available for the commuters every 12 minutes as five buses would be played in an hour on both directions.
This exercise was a part of Phase-1 of the project which would be commissioned by December 2008, during this phase municipal corporation would play the buses without taking up junctions improvements, the officials added.
Municipal corporation organised a symposium on this project here yesterday wherein Municipal Corporation Commissioner P S Pradyumna, Corporation Engineering Department officials and APSRTC deputy chief traffic manager A Sudhakar participated.
